What is combination skin?

Combination skin produces more oil in some areas of the face and too little in others, usually oily through the forehead, nose and chin, and dry or tight across the cheeks. It also has the thickest epidermis of all skin types and more dilated pores, which is why texture and shine tend to show up first in the T-zone. It's not two problems — it's one skin in imbalance, and it responds well once both needs are addressed together.

How do I know if I have combination skin?

The clearest sign is that your face behaves differently in different areas a few hours after cleansing. Your T-zone looks shiny while your cheeks feel tight or flaky. Pores are visible around the nose and inner cheeks, and a single cream tends to feel either too rich in one place or not enough in another.

Why does my combination skin change with the seasons?

Because oil production and water loss both shift with temperature and humidity. In warmer months, combination skin usually leans oilier and the T-zone becomes more reactive; in colder months, the dry areas dominate and the barrier loses water faster. This is why we build seasonal protocols rather than one fixed routine — the same skin genuinely needs different support in July and in January.

Can combination skin also be sensitive?

Yes. Sensitivity is a condition, not a skin type — it can sit on top of combination, oily, dry or normal skin. If your skin flushes easily, stings with new products or reddens after cleansing, you have combination skin with a sensitivity condition, and the formulas need to be selected with that in mind. Products suitable for sensitive skin carry a badge on their page.

Should I use different products on my T-zone and my cheeks?

Usually not. Multi-masking and zone-treating tend to make combination skin more unstable, because stripping the oily areas prompts them to produce more oil. We'd rather correct the cause than manage the symptom, using formulas that regulate oil and restore hydration at the same time. Three well-chosen products across the whole face will do more than seven applied in patches.

How long does it take to see a difference?

Most people see a visible change in 7 to 10 days — less shine through the T-zone, less tightness on the cheeks, and a more even surface overall. Deeper changes in pore appearance and texture take longer, usually across a full season of consistent use.

How do I find the right products for my combination skin?

Take the skin test. It looks at five things — your skin type, your skin's tendency, the current season, your age and any sensitivity — and returns a protocol built for that combination rather than a generic recommendation. Most people start with a three-product routine and build from there. We'd rather find out what your skin actually needs than sell you the same thing we sell everyone.
