What is hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is the appearance of darker patches on the skin, caused by an excess of melanin in one area. It shows up as dark spots, sun spots, post-blemish marks, or the wider patches many people notice after pregnancy or hormonal changes. It is the most common concern our customers arrive with, and the slowest to shift, because the pigment sits deeper than the surface layer of the skin. That is why the products in this collection work on two fronts at once: gently encouraging the surface to renew, while delivering botanical actives into the deeper layers where the pigment is actually formed.

What is in the DOS hyperpigmentation collection?

This collection brings together brightening serums, gentle exfoliators, targeted night treatments and protective day creams, all formulated in our own laboratory in Greece. Each formula pairs Greek botanical actives with our own absorption technology, which carries those actives past the surface and into the deeper layers of the skin. They are designed to work together as a routine rather than in isolation, which is why we recommend a maximum of three products at a time: one to renew, one to target, one to protect.

Should I choose products for light pigmentation or for dark spots?

Light pigmentation is diffuse and recent: an overall unevenness, a shadow after a blemish, a slightly patchy tone after summer. Dark spots are defined, deeper and long-established, and they need our most concentrated formulas.

If your marks are faint and you can still see your natural tone through them, start with a brightening day serum and daily protection. If they are clearly outlined and have not moved in months, start with our targeted night treatments. If you are unsure, the Skin Test takes two minutes and will tell you exactly which three products your skin needs right now, based on your skin type, tendency, age, sensitivity and the season.

How long does it take to see a difference in dark spots?

Most customers see a visible difference in tone and clarity within 7 to 10 days of consistent use. Dark spots themselves take longer, because you are working with pigment that has built up over months or years, so we ask for a full protocol of daily use before you judge the result. Brightness and evenness come first; the spots soften after. Use morning and night, and do not skip the protective step during the day, or you will be undoing the work each time you go outside.

Is this suitable for sensitive or reactive skin?

Yes. Our founder Chrysanthi built these formulas for her own reactive, barrier-compromised skin, after years of finding that most brightening products were too aggressive to use. Every formula is made without alcohol, parabens, sulfates and PEGs, is clinically tested for safety, and undergoes microbiological analysis per batch in our own lab. Products suited to sensitive skin carry a badge on their page. If your skin is very reactive, introduce one new product at a time and build up frequency over the first two weeks.

Which ingredients help with dark spots, and how do they work?

Excess pigment is produced through several different pathways, which is why a single ingredient rarely resolves it. Our formulas combine botanical actives that address more than one of those pathways at once: mandelic acid to gently exfoliate and renew the surface, curcumin and vitamin C to protect against the oxidation that drives pigment formation, and vitamin A from natural sources to encourage renewal and brightness. These sit alongside Greek herbs from the Olympus region, which our analysis showed carry an unusually rich concentration of active compounds, and our own delivery system, which helps those actives reach the layer where they can do their work. Every ingredient in every formula is published in full on the product page.

Will the dark spots come back?

Pigmentation is a tendency rather than a one-time event, so once you have improved your tone the goal shifts from correcting to protecting. Daily protection is the single most important habit, because unprotected sun exposure is the fastest way to bring spots back. Your routine should also shift with the season: summer leans on lighter serums and protection, while winter is the regeneration window, when exfoliation and the strongest night treatments do their best work. Retaking the Skin Test at the change of season will tell you what to adjust.
